 Greenpeace - Blue Shark: Longlining Campaign Launch Film


Commissioned by Greenpeace Australia Pacific, Blue Shark is a mixed-media animated short created by Dropbear to expose the devastating impact of industrial longline fishing in the Tasman Sea — one of the world’s most fragile marine ecosystems.


Through a blend of handcrafted collage, expressive 2D animation, and cinematic storytelling, the film follows a baby blue shark caught in the chaos of industrial exploitation. The result is a visceral and emotional journey that captures both the beauty of the ocean and the brutality of longline fishing.


Crafted in collaboration with illustrator Andrea Innocent and Sonar Music, the film’s design language juxtaposes the organic softness of marine life with the mechanical harshness of industrial fishing vessels — creating a bold and arresting visual contrast. The haunting score by Jackson Milas reinforces the emotional tension, driving home Greenpeace’s call to action for the Global Ocean Treaty, which aims to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.

 Greenpeace - There’s No Place Like Home


	Overview
There’s No Place Like Home is a three-part film series created in collaboration with Greenpeace and Photoplay Films, inspired by NASA’s Vital Signs of the Planet — key indicators showing that our world’s health is in crisis.


The films visualise rising CO₂ levels, sea level rise, and global temperature increase through intimate, handcrafted metaphors. Each chapter takes place inside a tiny room built within a globe — a home within a home — showing how the forces transforming our planet mirror the fragility of the spaces we live in.

Concept and Execution
The concept was to humanise data through design-driven storytelling, grounding global statistics in small, relatable moments of change. Instead of CGI, every element was built by hand and captured entirely in camera.


The globe was 3D printed, hand painted, and mounted on a motorised rig that allowed it to rotate like a living planet. Each film used real practical effects — micro fog to represent CO₂ buildup, flooding with real water, and controlled fire to depict temperature rise.


Shot with a motion control camera system at Dropbear Studios, the project combined miniature model-making, lighting design, and cinematography to achieve a tactile, cinematic aesthetic that feels both familiar and unsettling.


Craft and Collaboration
Filmed over three days with cinematographer Simon Higgins (@trickatech), the production demanded precise coordination between physical effects, motion control, and camera movement. The colour grade by Daniel Witt and CJ Dobson at Moodlab brought richness and cohesion to the series, while Oliver Lawrance at Photoplay Films supported the project from its inception.


Purpose
The series was created as a visual call to action, reminding audiences that climate change isn’t an abstract concept — it’s happening inside our collective home.


When the air thickens, the water rises, and the walls catch fire, there’s nowhere else to go.There’s no place like home.

‘Earned Here, Taxed Here’

	The complex concept of Australian corporate tax laws, was distilled into a simple and clever script that consisted of a large wooden map of Australia upon which a custom marble run was made to represent the economy and tax system. The marbles that populated the tracks, represented the money that corporations were trying to ship offshore via tax loopholes. These loopholes were then closed using real mechanisms that were built into the set. The marble run was designed and constructed from scratch using CNCed hardwood, aluminium, perspex and plywood. Each element was hand painted, stained, sand-blasted and weathered in accordance with the overarching colour palette and art direction. When finished the set was an impressive 2.4m square.
	As the set was initally designed in CAD we were able to use that CAD model to make a pre-visualisation of the shots and angles we wanted to get on the shoot day. The previs phase was invaluable as the exact set dimensions, physics and also the motion control camera system were all built into the software environment so that every shot could be carefully planned. A precise motion control robot was used to shoot the spot. This gave the ability to follow the balls around the tracks and get the camera over the set to achieve graceful camera moves to tell the story. It was an ambitious production to achieve in such a tight schedule as everything had to be made by hand and the mechanical loopholes and track system needed to work perfectly on the shoot day.

Lipton Kombucha&#38;nbsp;‘It’s for everyone now’

Combining stop motion animation, live action and in-camera hand-crafted tricks


	These four spots for Lipton Kombucha were a mixture of live action, stop motion, in-camera lighting effects and budgie puppeteering. The beard was custom made in different sections and then animated in reverse but cutting sections off one frame at a time. We had a rig that the talent could lean up against to keep him still throughout the sequence.&#38;nbsp;The Baby goats were surprisingly easy to work with and were quite happy to be standing on ‘higher ground’. The homebrew set was also animated in reverse so that we could end on the perfect setup.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

‘Toy Mania’


	In this three-film series for BIG W’s annual Toy Mania event, toys don’t just sit on shelves—they come alive in cinematic vignettes that celebrate play, nostalgia and pure fun:


Film 1 – Jurassic Mayhem: An ode to one of the best Blockbusters 🦖 of all time and also to the unique pain of stepping on Lego. ⁠


Film 2 – Kitchen Speed Run: A LEGO race car zooms through an unexpected arena—your very own kitchen—bringing high-speed gadgetry to everyday life.


Film 3 – Glam &#38;amp;-Go: In a playful mash-up, a Barbie bus meets He-Man in a Queer Eye-style transformation, riffing on Priscilla Queen of the Desert with full on-location glitz and attitude.


All three were crafted using in-camera stop-motion, puppetry and practical effects—real toys, real sets—bringing kinetic detail and character to each scene. Filmed over three days at BLUE DOT Studios in Sydney, the project leaned into high-design aesthetics, bold textures and cinematic lighting to create a miniature world with maximum impact.


The result is a campaign that puts toys front and centre—bold, tactile and full of personality—and helped position Toy Mania as “the greatest race in the universe” for toy lovers of all ages.
